Requently Asked Questions

Do I have to leave the device plugged in all the time?

This is the most common question we get! We recommend leaving it plugged in, but sometimes that's not practical, like when you take your truck to the shop for repairs they'll remove it to run diagnostics. Just remember to plug it back in before your next test deadline.

What happens if I fail a test?

If you fail a test you'll need to make repairs then contact us when you're ready to retest.

Keep in mind you'll need to acheive "OBD Readiness" before you can pass a test after repairs. That means you need to run the truck 200 miles, OR 400 minutes, OR 5 warm-up cycles, OR no more than 2 incomplete monitors (requirements updated June 6, 2025).

Will it work with my truck?

Works with all makes and models as long as the truck has a 2013 or newer engine.

If you have a 2012 or older engine you need an OVI (Opacity Visual Inspection), also known as a smoke test.

What if my area has bad cellular service?

The device needs a strong cell signal to submit tests to California. If the device is unable to submit a test it will automatically continue attempting to submit once a day until it's successful (this happens in the background automatically). Most OTR drivers hit a good signal as they travel around, so a weak cellular signal is more of a frustration than a problem.
